This past spring has been a time of significant change for Prevex, as the company moved most of its assembly operations from Nykarleby to Jakobstad between March and April. The project will be completed during May, when the last assembly line is finalised at the Jakobstad factory. In Nykarleby, Prevex will increasingly focus on injection moulding going forward.
The decision to centralise assembly operations in the larger and modernised Jakobstad plant has been driven especially by the need to streamline production in response to rising demand.
“With all assembly taking place in the same location, production speeds up and transportation between Jakobstad and Nykarleby is reduced. At the same time, urgent orders can be handled more smoothly, sales spikes can be met more effectively, and delivery times are shortened,” says Mikael Gäddnäs, Prevex’s Chief Operating Officer.
A larger personnel brings flexibility to production
Moving all assembly to Jakobstad also significantly eases planning work for Prevex’s supervisors. While 40 employees previously worked at the Jakobstad factory, the number will increase to 60 as those from the Nykarleby assembly lines transfer over.
“We can now use and optimise our resources better than before. A larger staff allows for more flexible allocation of workers to the areas with the most urgent needs,” Gäddnäs explains.
