News Sustainability March 01, 2025 Back to news Prevex is phasing out lead from its products By replacing brass with lead-free and eco-friendlier materials, Prevex is taking a significant step towards more sustainable production. The first new lead-free product versions will be launched in April 2025. In recent years, Prevex has actively invested in reducing its carbon emissions. One of the important steps has been increasing the amount of recycled plastic in products to 60 percent. Although the target is to raise this percentage continuously in the future, Prevex is now focusing more on phasing out brass and lead in its products.“Reducing and eventually quitting brass use has the biggest impact on the environment after switching to recycled plastics”, says Prevex’s Senior Advisor Niclas Caldén.“Brass includes lead that is toxic for humans. By removing lead from our products, we can e.g. get a strainer that generates 100 percent less impact on human health compared to today’s version”, he continues.New versions of kitchen products to be launched firstReplacing brass is no easy feat. Prevex kitchen and bathroom water traps together with different accessories contain brass, so a lot of work and new thinking has been needed to find alternative solutions. Now Prevex is ready to start replacing brass in kitchen products in April 2025. In the future, also replacing brass in bathroom products will follow.“In some products, brass will be completely replaced by plastic, and in others by a combination of plastic and stainless steel. A combination will be used especially in products that have visible metal parts to keep them stylish,” says Caldén.“Despite the materials and some of the designs changing, the products will still have the same appearance, features, and high durability as before.”Prevex is strategically working with sustainability on different levels. Reducing lead also contributes to the aim to decrease the company´s total carbon emissions by over 40 percent by the end of 2025.
