Trial runs for the new cardboard line began about a year ago. Since then, the line has been further developed, recently achieving an even higher level of automation. Now operating at full capacity across two shifts, the line has enabled Prevex to reduce its single-use plastic consumption by as much as 12 tonnes per year.
“The cardboard line is technically advanced because it has the capacity to handle a wide range of different box formats in a single process – from compact bathroom products to larger kitchen traps”, says Senior Adviser Niclas Caldén at Prevex, who is responsible for the new line.
Thanks to the cardboard line, Prevex can now offer entirely plastic-free packaging, which has been met with great interest from customers. Currently, packaging for two different customers is being run on the line, but several other projects are under development.
Cardboard stands out on the shelf
In addition to providing customers with plastic-free packaging that reduces the amount of single-use plastic, the cardboard packaging also offers other benefits.
“The packaging is visually appealing because it can be printed. This helps the products stand out on retail shelves and simply makes them more marketable”, Caldén says.
In recent years, Prevex has taken several measures to reduce the environmental impact of its packaging, including using 50% recycled plastic in its plastic packaging. The company is also prepared to start packing its traps in paper bags.
“We have the technical capability to use paper bags as soon as we get a customer on board”, says Caldén.
