John-John: A spider in the web

John-John Olson’s career at Prevex has taken him from the factory floor to his current position as Technical Product Administrator.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your career thus far at Prevex?

My name is John-John. I am 32 years old and come from Nykarleby. I have a vocational exam in business and administration, and I am working towards a bachelor’s degree in business. Ten years ago, I took a summer job at Prevex as a machine operator in the production department. Prevex is the largest company in Nykarleby, and it felt like a natural place to apply for work. In 2014, I started working as a temp in the assembly, and from there I moved to the warehouse, where I became a team leader a few years later. A little over a year ago, I got my current position in the Production Management department.

What do you work with as a Technical Product Administrator?

My main task is to make sure that our product structures, i.e., everything we manufacture, both new and existing products, meet all technical requirements, and that our production department has all the data they need. I also put together drawings and check that all pieces fit together for smooth assembly. I am a part of our product development process and the order-to-delivery process, where we make sure that everything works, from manufacturing a water trap to the point where the customer installs it in their sink. My experience from several departments helps me to see things from different perspectives, which I believe is a strength in my current job.

What is the best part about your job?

The absolute best part of my job is my varying work tasks. I am in contact with different departments and get to be something of a “spider in the web”. I am also very happy to work with my colleagues. We have a nice team here and a good work atmosphere. Even though Prevex is growing, there is a tight sense of unity.

How do you tackle challenges in your work?

I like working and juggling many things at once. I work with information. I do not have to be an expert in the way, e.g., a product developer has to, but I must be able to address problems. In my role it is also important to be a so-called people person. I must be able to collaborate with different people.

What is it like to work at Prevex? How do you view your future within the company?

I am happy here. Prevex is a growing company with heavy investment. New positions are created all the time. It is fun to be part of the development stage. There are opportunities for you to develop here if you want to take them. I think I will be working at Prevex for a long time. I see opportunities for me personally to go forward.
